He is in the stern

But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Mark 4:38

When Jesus told his disciples, “Let us cross over to the other side”, was because He intended to get there. As their journey took place, a storm began and the disciples aware that their boat was filling up with water, got scared. They tried on their own all what they could to keep the boat afloat. They employed all of their skills to maintain everything under control. Why was Jesus sleeping in the stern? It is curious that it is from the stern where the boat is controlled, where the direction of the vessel takes place and it was there where Jesus was sleeping. It was only when they asked Jesus for help, that the situation turned around.

How often we get immerse into all of the ordinariness of life, and when situations arise we first use our knowledge, skills, know how, all before we call Him for help. We rely on ourselves just as the disciples did. We want to have control. At some point our boat fills up with water, and it isn’t until our “safe” place starts to sink, we relinquish control over to the Lord. While we assume control, He has no option but to rest. When He assumes control, we find rest.

How often we forget, that Jesus is in the stern waiting for you to call upon Him and let Him take control. We put our attention on what is going on around us, and try to fix things with our own strength. We seldom find rest. What we create is discouragement, doubt, fear, and most often than not, chaos.

It is time for us to look at the stern and give control over to Him; He is awaiting. Let Him take care of your needs, and situations. It doesn’t mean that you will not get wet, or that the boat will not fill itself with water. It doesn’t mean that you will avoid the storms, or that it might sometimes seem like you will perish. But in spite of all of that, He has promised that He will be with us, everyday.

So remember, He is in the stern.

Él está en la popa

Y Él estaba en la popa, durmiendo sobre un cabezal; y le despertaron, y le dijeron: Maestro, ¿No tienes cuidado que perecemos?. Marcos 4:38

Cuando Jesús le dijo a sus discípulos, “Pasemos al otro lado”, era porque tenía la intención de llegar allí. Durante su travesía, se desató una tormenta y los discípulos viendo que el embarcación se estaba llenando de agua, se asustaron. Trataron por su cuenta, todo lo que pudieron para mantener la embarcación a flote. Emplearon todas sus destrezas para mantener todo bajo control. ¿Por qué Jesús estaba durmiendo en la popa? Es curioso que la embarcación se controla desde la popa; es ahí donde la dirección de la embarcación toma lugar y era allí donde Jesus dormía. Cuando le pidieron ayuda a Jesús y los despertaron, fue cuando la situación estuvo bajo control.

Cuan a menudo nos sumergimos en lo ordinario de la vida, y se levantan situaciones, recurrimos primero a nuestros conocimientos y destrezas antes de pedirle ayuda a Él. Confiamos en nosotros mismos al igual como lo hicieron los discípulos. Queremos tener control. En algún punto, nuestra embarcación se llena de agua, y no es hasta que nuestro lugar “seguro” comienza a hundirse, que le cedemos el control al Señor. Mientras nosotros tomamos control, Él no tiene opción sino que descansar. Pero cuando Él asume el control, nosotros encontramos descanso.

Cuán a menudo nos olvidamos que Jesús está en la popa esperando a que le llamemos y le dejemos tomar el control. Ponemos nuestra atención en lo que sucede a nuestro alrededor y tratamos de arreglar las cosas con nuestras fuerzas y rara vez encontramos descanso. Lo que creamos es desasosiego, dudas, temores, y frecuentemente, caos.

Es tiempo de buscarle en la popa y darle el control a Él; Él está esperando. Deja que Él supla tus necesidades y tome control de tus situaciones. No significa que no te vas a mojar o que la embarcación no se llenará de agua. Tampoco que evitarás las tormentas o que en ocasiones parecería que vas a perecer. Pero a pesar de todo eso, Él ha prometido que estará con nosotros, siempre.

Así es que recuerda, Él está en la popa.

“RESPIRA con expectación, VIVE con confianza y MUÉVETE con valentía”

If you only knew!

Jesus replied: “If you only knew the gift God has for you and who you’re talking, you would ask me to me, and I would give you living water. John 4:10 NLT

On his way to Galilee, Jesus passed through the village of the Samaritans, call Sychar. Tired of walking, he was left alone, while the disciples went to get food. He was thirsty and asked for water to a Samaritan woman who had reached the well where Jesus was sitting. She was surprised that a Jew asked her for water, since Jews and Samaritans did not get along with each other. She asked surprised, why are you asking me for water? (V. 9).

You see, the first thing she did was refer her status to Jesus. She openly stated the obvious about her reality. She was in a situation that nobody could change, she was a Samaritan and, beyond that, had a reputation that was questionable. She had been marked and cornered to a stigma that had defined her, that had become her identity. She was so rooted in her stigma that she even was surprised that a Jew would speak to her and say, “If you only knew.”

Life happens. Things happen. We can’t change the past, and most of us, if we are given the opportunity, would relive and would change the past, that situation that we experience or even provoked. We distress thinking, why? We consume thinking about questions that have no answers, that loop endlessly in our heads. But Jesus is telling you, “If you only knew.”

Do you feel cornered? Do you feel shunned by the world? Have you been labeled? Do you feel that no matter what you do, your reality is not going to change? Do you believe everything has been said about you? You could say: “But everything has been said about me is true. They are referring to me, therefore I have to accept it.”

But if you only knew the gift of God to you. The only one who can transform and transcend your life to new heights. Whatever your financial situation, no matter how broken your relationships are, no matter what you’ve done, no matter your situation, if you only knew the gift of God. He is present, and has come to your encounter, to show you that He wants to give you a new life. You may have been living in a corner, you might have been labeled, and everyone else seems to dictate your life, your achievements and your capabilities.

The woman at the well saw life through her own eyes, and adapted to the reality of its possibilities. She thought that the well was the source that would quench her thirst. But today, the man at the well, is telling you, if you only knew … He has what you need, water that will quench your thirst and becomes a spring that flows with freshness into you. If you knew who you are talking to, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.

Your past, your mistakes, your situation does not define you. Life will spring forth in you and you will NEVER be the same.

So come, He is waiting for you. If you only knew!

¡Si tan sólo supieras!

Jesús contestó:—Si tan sólo supieras el regalo que Dios tiene para ti y con quién estás hablando, tú me pedirías a mí, y yo te daría agua viva. Juan 4:10 NTV

De camino a Galilea, Jesús pasó a través de la aldea de los samaritanos, llamada Sicar. Cansado de la caminata, se quedó solo, mientras que los discípulos fueron a conseguir alimento. Tenía sed y le pidió agua a una mujer samaritana que había llegado al pozo donde Jesús se había sentado. Ella se sorprendió de que un judío le pidiera agua, ya que los judíos y los samaritanos no se llevaban entre sí. Ella le preguntó sorprendida, ¿Por qué me pide agua para beber?. 

Verás, lo primero que hizo ella fue referir su condición a Jesús. Abiertamente expuso lo que era obvio acerca de su realidad. Estaba en una situación que nadie podía cambiar, era una samaritana, y encima de eso, tenía una reputación que era cuestionable. Ella había sido marcada y acorralada a un estigma que la había definido, que se había convertido en su identidad. Estaba tan arraigada a su estigma que incluso se sorprendió de que un judío le hablara y le dijera, “Si tan sólo supieras”.

La vida transcurre. Suceden cosas. No podemos cambiar el pasado, y la mayoría de nosotros, si se nos diera la oportunidad, reviviríamos y cambiaríamos ese pasado, esa situación que experimentamos o incluso provocamos. Nos angustia pensar en el por qué. Nos consumimos pensando en preguntas que no tienen respuesta, que nos dan vuelta tras vuelta en la cabeza. Pero Jesús te dice hoy , “Si tan sólo supieras”.

¿Te sientes acorralado? ¿Te ha rechazado el mundo? ¿Te han señalado? ¿Sientes que no importa lo que hagas, tu realidad no va a cambiar? ¿Crees todo lo que se ha dicho sobre ti? Podrías decir: “Pero, todo lo que se ha dicho de mí es verdad. Se están refiriendo a mí, por lo tanto, debo aceptarlo”.

Pero, si tan sólo conocieras el regalo de Dios para ti. El único que puede transformar y trascender tu vida a nuevas alturas. No importa tu situación financiera, no importa cuán rotas estén tus relaciones, no importa lo que hayas hecho, no importa tu condición, si tan sólo conocieras el regalo de Dios para ti. Él está presente, y ha llegado a encontrarse contigo para mostrarte que quiere darte una vida nueva. Es posible que hayas estado viviendo en un rincón, que te hayan marcado, y todos los demás parezcan dictar tu vida, tus logros y tus posibilidades.

La mujer en el pozo vio la vida a través de sus propios ojos, y adaptó esa realidad a sus posibilidades. Ella pensó que el pozo era su fuente para saciar la sed. Pero hoy, ese hombre en el pozo te está diciendo, si tan sólo supieras… Él tiene lo que necesitas, agua que saciará tu sed que se convierte en un manantial que brota con frescura dentro de ti. Si supieras quien te está hablando, tu le pedirías, y él te daría agua viva.

Tu pasado, tus errores, tu situación no te definen. Vida brotará en ti y JAMÁS serás igual.

Así es que ven, Él te está esperando. ¡Si tan sólo supieras!

¡RESPIRA con expectación, VIVE con confianza y MUÉVETE con valentía!

From a mistake to a miracle

The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them; I have given them into your hand. Not one of them will be able to withstand you.” Joshua 10:8

Joshua had been instructed to eliminate all of the enemies of Israel. He had done so in Jericho, and the city of Ai, but he made a promise to spare the life of the Gibeonites. Most likely they would be the next in line for defeat as these other cities. That is why when the people of Gibeon heard of this, they resorted to a ruse. They would disguise themselves as inhabitants from a distant city, with worn out clothing and moldy bread. Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath. Joshua did not seek God’s will on this matter and compromised himself and the nation. When the neighboring cities heard of this alliance, and army was assembled to attack Gibeon. But because of their oath, now Israel had to protect them.

Even when Joshua had not consulted God for this decision, which clearly had a binding effect, God performed a miracle that day; the sun stood still for an entire day. Joshua was in this situation because of a bad decision he had made, a mistake. Nevertheless, God acted on his behalf and heard his prayer.

You might be questioning every single decision you have made and every single action done in the past that caused you to be in the situation you are in today. It might feel that there is no use to ask God for direction because it was you who blew it, and you pound and accuse yourself. You even have these solo conversations in your car, asking why could I be so naive? Why didn’t I see this? Why did I trust? Question after question that is only making a bad situation make you feel worst and you translate this failure to make it your identity. Failure does not define you. Failure is an event, never a person.

Stop demeaning yourself. Stop questioning why you did or did not do or say something. Shake off those accusing voices from your life and press on. The past cannot be change, but the future is waiting to be transformed by you. You can go around and around the same issue for the rest of your life, or do something about it. You can continue complaining or lift yourself up and change your life.

Thats what Joshua did. He marched all the way to the battle. He was in it because of a mistake he had made, but he marched on to win the battle, and in doing so a great miracle unfolded. The sun stood still. So could be with you. If you rise up and march on, God can turn things around in your life even if your predicament has been caused by you. God can change everything around if you believe. You will see your life unfold from a mistake to a miracle.

De un error a un milagro

Y el Señor le dijo a Josué: ‘No tiembles ante ellos, pues yo te los entrego; ninguno de ellos podrá resistirte.” Josué 10:8

Josué había recibido instrucciones de eliminar a todos los enemigos de Israel. Lo había hecho en Jericó, y en la ciudad de Hai. Pero hizo una promesa de perdonar la vida de los Gabaonitas. Muy probablemente ellos serían los siguientes en la línea de derrota, al igual que las otras ciudades. Es por eso que cuando en el pueblo de Gabaón se enteraron de esto, recurrieron a una artimaña. Ellos se disfrazaron como habitantes de una ciudad lejana, con ropa desgastada y con panes enmohecidos. Por lo que Josué hizo un tratado de paz con ellos que les permitiría vivir, y los líderes de la asamblea lo ratificaron bajo juramento. Josué no procuró buscar la voluntad de Dios sobre este asunto y se comprometió a sí mismo y a la nación. Cuando las ciudades vecinas oyeron de esta alianza, un ejército se reunió para atacar a Gabaón. Pero a causa del juramento, ahora Israel tenía que protegerlos.

Incluso cuando Josué no consultó a Dios acerca de esta decisión, que claramente tenía un efecto obligatorio, Dios hizo un milagro aquel día; el sol se detuvo por un día entero. Josué estaba en esta situación debido a una mala decisión que había tomado, un error. Sin embargo, Dios actuó en su favor y escuchó su oración.

Puede que te cuestiones cada decisión que has tomado y cada acción realizada en el pasado que causó el que estés en la situación en que te encuentras hoy. Podrías sentirte que no hay uso en pedirle a Dios por dirección, ya que fuiste tú quien que lo echó a perder todo, y arremetes y te acusas ti mismo. Puedes incluso estar teniendo estas conversaciones a solas en tu vehículo, preguntándote ¿por qué fui tan ingenuo? ¿por qué no pude ver esto? ¿por qué me confié? Pregunta tras pregunta que sólo están haciendo que una mala situación te haga sentir peor, y al mismo tiempo, traduces este fracaso y lo haces tu identidad. El fracaso no te define. El fracaso es un evento, nunca una persona.

Deja de degradarte. Deja de cuestionar por qué hiciste o dejaste de hacer o decir algo. Sacude de tu vida esas voces que te acusan y sigue adelante. El pasado no puede ser cambiado, pero el futuro está esperando a ser transformado por ti. Puedes darle vueltas y vueltas al mismo asunto por el resto de tu vida o hacer algo al respecto. Puedes seguir quejándote o decidir levantarte y cambiar tu vida. Eso fue lo que hizo Josué. Marchó todo el camino hacia la batalla. Estaba en ella debido a un error que había cometido, pero aún así marchó para ganar la batalla y al hacerlo, un gran milagro se desplegó. El sol se detuvo.

Así podría ser contigo. Si te levantas y marchas, Dios puede cambiar las cosas en tu vida, aun si tú mismo has provocado la situación. Si crees, Dios puede cambiar todo a tu alrededor. Él puede hacer que el sol se detenga, por ti. Verás tu vida desarrollarse de un error a un milagro.

The strength of a woman

“Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” Esther 4:16 NIV

There is something incredibly special about the strength of a woman. It is birthed in the most intricate place of her being, it is evident in every step she takes. It can be seen in the most trying times. The strength of woman makes her incapable of backing down; they stand up for what they believe. It is the strength that makes her a determined individual in all that she does, in purpose, in life, in sacrifice and in love. A gift God himself has deposited in every woman alive.

Esther, a young jew in a foreign land, had a burning desire to save her people. She was in a privileged position, a favored position, she was going to marry the king. But when presented with the choice of maintaing her status quo or saving those she loved, love was triumphant. But this was not an easy decision. It was a moment in which her own life was at stake. If anyone appeared before the king uninvited and he did not extend his scepter towards the visitor, he or she was killed. So Esther knew very well was she was facing. She understood that she had a choice and could easily stay put and not move. She had been enjoying for months the oil treatments and perfumes destined to the one who would become the wife of the king. She had been given the opportunity to stand in a high place and could walk along and maintain her peace.

But something bigger than herself stirred her spirit. So much that she was willing to give everything away for it, even go against of what was established. She was willing to die. “And if I perish, I perish!”. So where does this quality comes from? It comes from the indescribable essence of the One that created her. Love. The strength of a woman is birthed in love. It is not an emotion, but a motion, a fuel that will make her do anything her heart pushes her to do, no matter the consequences, or even death. Women don’t care if they look weird, if they look or appear foolish to everybody else if they have to defend what they love. The honor of their house, her husband or her children, wherever her love is, her life will follow. Esther was triumphant, she accomplished what her heart had moved her to do. Love always wins.

Look very closely, it is natural for a woman to be this way. So it is not strange that God would express his character through, the strength of a woman.

La fortaleza de la mujer

“Ve y reúne a todos los judíos que están en Susa, para que ayunen por mí. Durante tres días no coman ni beban, ni de día ni de noche. Yo, por mi parte, ayunaré con mis doncellas al igual que ustedes. Cuando cumpla con esto, me presentaré ante el rey, por más que vaya en contra de la ley. ¡Y si perezco, que perezca!” Ester 4:16 NVI

Hay algo increíblemente especial sobre la fortaleza de una mujer. Nace en el lugar más intrínseco de su ser, es evidente en cada paso que ella toma. Se puede ver en los momentos más difíciles. La fortaleza de la mujer la hace incapaz de dar marcha atrás; defienden lo que creen. Es la fortaleza lo que la convierte en un ser determinado en todo lo que hace, en efecto, en la vida, en el sacrificio y en el amor. Un regalo que Dios mismo ha depositado en toda mujer con vida.

Ester, una joven judía en tierra extranjera, tenía un ardiente deseo de salvar a su pueblo. Ella estaba en una posición privilegiada, una posición favorecida, ella iba a casarse con el rey. Pero cuando se presentó el momento de elegir entre mantener su status quo o salvar a sus seres queridos, el amor triunfó. Esto no fue una decisión fácil. Fue un momento en el que su vida estaba en juego. Si alguien se presentaba ante el rey sin ser invitado y él no se extendía su cetro hacia el visitante, él o ella moriría. Así que, Ester sabía muy bien a lo que se estaba enfrentando. Comprendió que tenía una opción y que podría quedarse y no hacer nada. Había estado disfrutando por meses de tratamientos de aceite y perfumes destinados a quien se convertiría en la esposa del rey. A ella se le había otorgado la oportunidad de estar en un lugar alto y podía caminar a lo largo y mantener su paz.

Sin embargo, algo más grande que ella estremecía su espíritu. Tanto, que estaba dispuesta a darlo todo, incluso el ir en contra de lo establecido. Estaba dispuesta a morir. “Y si perezco, que perezca”. Entonces, ¿de dónde viene esta cualidad? Se trata de la esencia indescriptible de Aquel que la creó. El amor. La fortaleza de una mujer nace en el amor, no es una emoción, sino un movimiento, un combustible que le hace hacer cualquier cosa que su corazón le impulse, sin importar las consecuencias, incluso la muerte. A las mujeres no les importa si se ven raras o si se ven o parecen desatinadas frente a los demás cuando tienen que defender lo que aman. El honor de su casa, su esposo o sus hijos, su vida seguirá, dondequiera que esté su amor. Ester triunfó, logró lo que su corazón le movió a hacer. El amor siempre triunfa.

Veamos de manera mas cercana, es natural para una mujer el ser así. Por lo tanto, no es extraño que Dios exprese su carácter a través, de la fortaleza de la mujer.
