The valley or the mountain?

Lot chose for himself the whole Jordan Valley to the east of them. He went there with his flocks and servants and parted company with his uncle Abram. So Abram settled in the land of Canaan, and Lot moved his tents to a place near Sodom and settled among the cities of the plain. Genesis 13:11-12 NLT

Abram and Lot had a situation that needed an immediate decision. Their flocks and family had grown so much that they were interfering with each other. Space and food were the prime assets and there was not much of it to sustain both families. So Abram gave Lot a choice; the valley or the mountain. Lot chose the Jordan Valley, a place that was plentiful and sustainable to the immediate sight. But this place was also close to Sodom, a place full of sin and perversion and as the story unfolds, near to destruction.

Lot had became wealthy because of Abram and in spite of that, he chose what appeared to be the best land for himself. So don’t be surprised that when you help someone, or they even become better financially, emotionally, or relationally that this might also happen. They will chose, if given the opportunity the best for themselves.

But Abram was shown the mountaintop. A place that from the valley could not be seen clearly. A place that would seem difficult to get over, but it was the place where he would see much further, clearer and better. From this place God gave Abram a legacy and a promise that is still alive today.

When we are faced with decisions, we should always take the “high road”. It is usually the most difficult choice and often not necessarily fair from our point of view. Even if the decision is taken for us, we should always take the high place and be still , because your mountaintop is near. Your faithfulness will move God to honor you.

Look at your situation or dilemma with a different perspective. You might be seeing the valley as the “big” prize. God may be allowing this moment of apparent injustice and ungratefulness to show you the way to your mountaintop. From there, your vision, your mission and you calling with sprung forth a legendary legacy that will impact your generation and the future ones to come. If a valley is taken from you, a mountaintop is in store for you.

So what will you chose today, the valley or the mountain?

¿El valle o la montaña?

Lot escogió para sí todo el valle del Jordán, que estaba situado al oriente. Se separó de su tío Abram y se mudó allí con sus rebaños y sus siervos. Entonces Abram se estableció en la tierra de Canaán, y Lot movió sus carpas a un lugar cerca de Sodoma y se estableció entre las ciudades de la llanura. Génesis 13:11-12 NTV

Abram y Lot tenían una situación que necesita una decisión inmediata. Sus rebaños y sus familias habían crecido tanto que interfieran unas con las otras. El espacio y los alimentos fueron eran los principales activos y no había para sostener ambas familias. Así que Abram le dio un Lot la elección; el valle o la montaña. Lot escogió el valle del Jordán, un lugar que era abundante y sostenible a simple vista. Pero este lugar también se encontraba cerca de Sodoma, un lugar lleno de pecado y perversión y como sabemos como se desarrolla la historia, también cerca de su destrucción.

Lot se convirtió en un hombre rico a causa de Abram, y a pesar de de ello, eligió lo que parecía ser la mejor la tierra para sí mismo. No te sorprendas que aún cuando ayudes a alguien a estar mejor económicamente, emocionalmente, o relacionalmente, que esto también te ocurra. Ellos escogerán, si se les da la oportunidad, lo mejor para sí mismos.

Pero a Abram le fue dada la cima de la montaña. Un lugar que, desde el valle no se veía con claridad. Un lugar que parecía difícil de superar, pero fue el lugar de donde se podía ver mucho más lejos, más claro y mejor. Desde ese lugar, Dios le dio a Abram un legado, una promesa, que aún está viva hoy.

Cuando nos enfrentamos a decisiones, debemos siempre tomar el “camino honorable”. Por lo general, la elección más difícil y no necesariamente justa desde nuestro punto de vista. Incluso si la decisión se toma por nosotros, hemos de tomar el camino honorable y estar quietos, porque la cima está cerca. Tu fidelidad moverá a Dios a honrarte.

Mira a tu situación o tu dilema con una perspectiva diferente. Puede que estés mirando el valle el “gran” premio. Dios puede estar permitiendo este momento de aparente injusticia e ingratitud, para mostrarte el camino a la cima de la montaña. A partir de ahí, tu visión, tu misión y tu llamado brotarán un legado legendario que afectará a tu generación y las futuras por venir. Si tu valle ha sido tomado de ti, la cima de la montaña te está esperando.

Entonces, ¿qué elegirás hoy, el valle o la montaña?

A dear friend was telling me how grateful he felt, especially these days. He is a businessman, that as many of us, has had his share of ups and downs. In a recent venture, he got into pretty difficult times, not because he didn’t know what he was doing, but because everything, and I mean everything came to a halt. Permits, referrals, inspections, income, all stopped. In this new place that he rented, he owed literally thousands of dollars, not because of poor stewardship, but because not being to operate on time due to circumstances completely out of his control. When he spoke to the landlord, expressing his eagerness to start getting up to date in his payments, since he recently was able open, she told him: “I am very happy that you are able to start, I know of your troubles, and I have been praying for you, so you can start this month, but you will start in zero, you owe me nothing”.

Wow!, this amazing story reminds me of how our debts have been forgiven. Jesus died on the cross for us and took all of our iniquities and forgave us. He made us anew, He cancelled our all of our debts and gave us a fresh start, and He didn’t had to do it. It also makes me search my heart to see if I need to forgive and cancel someone else’s debt. It might be a debt of money, but more importantly a debt of love or forgiveness.

Has someone hurt you, wronged you? Is there someone that you struggle to forgive when you see or think about? The scar in you life might be so great that it can’t be missed. It is a constant reminder of a painful and difficult time in your life. Time that you might be even going through right now. You can continue living your life with that feeling haunting you, or you can decide to be free. You can choose to forgive, you can choose to cancel the debt, even when you don’t have to.

Search your heart, seek the Lord and read His Word. You might be the one receiving a miracle today or even better, someone will hear your voice saying; It is Cancelled!

¡Está cancelado!

El señor de aquel siervo, movido a misericordia, le soltó y le perdonó la deuda. Mateo 18:27

Un estimado amigo me dijo cuán agradecido se sentía, especialmente estos días. Él es un hombre de negocios, que al igual que a muchos de nosotros, ha tenido sus altas y sus bajas. En una reciente empresa, tuvo momentos difíciles, no porque no sabía lo que hacía, sino porque todo, y me refiero a todo, se detuvo. Los permisos, referidos, inspecciones, ingresos, todo se detuvo. En este nuevo lugar que alquiló, debía literalmente miles de dólares, no debido a pobre administración, sino por razones totalmente fuera de su control, no poder comenzar a operar a tiempo. Cuando le habló a la propietaria, expresando su deseo por comenzar a ponerse al día en sus pagos, ya que recientemente pudo comenzar a operar el negocio, ella le dijo: “Estoy muy feliz que puedas comenzar, conozco las dificultades que has tenido, y he estado orando por ti, así que comenzarás este mes, pero comenzarás en cero, no me debes nada”.

¡Wow! Esta asombrosa historia me recuerda cómo nuestras deudas han sido perdonadas. Jesús murió en la cruz por nosotros, y tomó todas nuestras iniquidades y nos perdonó. Él nos hizo nuevos, canceló todas nuestras deudas y nos dio un comienzo fresco, cuando no tenía que hacerlo. Esto también me hace buscar en mi corazón para ver si necesito perdonar y cancelarle a alguien alguna deuda. Puede ser que sea una deuda de dinero, pero más importante aún, una deuda de amor o de perdón.

¿Te han agraviado o lastimado? ¿Se te hace difícil perdonarlos cuando los ves o piensas en ellos? La cicatriz en tu vida es tan grande que no se puede ignorar. Es un recordatorio constante de un tiempo doloroso y difícil en tu vida; tiempo que tal vez estás atravesando ahora. Puedes continuar viviendo tu vida con ese sentimiento que te persigue, o puedes decidir ser libre. Puedes elegir perdonar, puedes elegir cancelar la deuda, aun cuando no tengas que hacerlo.

Escudriña tu corazón, busca al Señor y lee Su Palabra. Puede ser que seas tú quién reciba un milagro hoy o mejor aún, alguien escuchará tu voz diciendo; ¡Está Cancelado!

The old story is the only story

We all like and want new and improved, of everything. The freshness of something different always catches our attention, but I would submit to you this thought: The old story is the only story. Salomon said it in the book of Ecclesiastes, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun”. But as we continue to pursue the next best thing, or keep up with the latest trend, we find ourselves in an endless race of nothingness.

We believe that if we create a trend, a movement or even a brand we are redefining how things are done. And I have to concede that things today are done different and that we have been able to create many improvements. The way we approach business, the way we raise our family, the way we even do church has changed and in many ways and in doing so, we have found many new ways of doing practically everything. But when we go deep, there is really nothing new.

That brings me to the central theme of this conversation: The old story is still, the only story. The story of forgiveness, sacrifice and empowerment that was performed at Calvary, is the only story. Today we live in an extremely visual generation, in all that we talk, express and share. There are so many choices that we can literally be overwhelmed. And what about our choices of churches, we can sit everyday and even depending on our mood, we could choose what church to watch over the internet, or even go to. But the story is still the same; He loved us in such a way, that he gave his only son for our sins, no matter what they are. And to accept this sacrifice and surrender our lives to him, is the point of the story.

You see, it really doesn’t matter the form, the style, the mood or the place, Jesus sacrifice can clean you of your sins today, if you surrender. You will be made new. He is able, He is waiting and He has done all that is necessary so you could have life, and life abundantly. The form you might be hearing the story could be different, but the essence of the story is the same. You could go around and around trying many other “stories” and still continue to feel empty and lost. This is the story: He loved you so much, that he gave it all and that is why the old story is still the only story.

La historia antigua es la única historia

A todos nos gusta y deseamos lo nuevo y mejorado, en todo. La frescura de algo diferente siempre nos llama la atención, pero quisiera presentarte este pensamiento: La historia antigua es la única historia. Salomón lo dijo en el libro de Eclesiastés, “Lo que ya ha acontecido volverá a acontecer; lo que ya se ha hecho se volverá a hacer ¡y no hay nada nuevo bajo el sol!”. Pero a medida que seguimos buscando la mejor alternativa, o nos mantenemos al día con la última tendencia, nos encontramos en una carrera vacía que no termina.

Creemos que si podemos crear una tendencia, un movimiento o una marca estamos redefiniendo cómo se hacen las cosas. Y tengo que reconocer que hoy se realizan de manera diferente muchas de las cosas y que hemos sido capaces de crear numerosas mejoras. La manera del enfoque empresarial, la forma en que criamos a nuestra familia, nuestra manera de hacer iglesia incluso ha cambiado en muchos aspectos y al hacerlo, hemos descubierto nuevas formas de realizar prácticamente todo. Sin embargo, cuando profundizamos, no hay nada realmente nuevo.

Esto me lleva al tema central de esta conversación: La historia antigua sigue siendo la única historia. La historia del perdón, del sacrificio y del empoderamiento que se realizó en el Calvario es la única historia. Hoy en día vivimos en una generación muy visual, en todo lo que se habla, expresa y comparte. Hay tantas opciones que pueden ser literalmente abrumadoras. Y ¿qué pasa con nuestras decisiones de iglesias?, nos podemos sentar todos los días y dependiendo incluso de nuestro estado de ánimo, podemos elegir qué iglesia ver a través de Internet, o incluso ir. Pero la historia sigue siendo la misma, Él nos amó de tal manera, que dio a su único hijo por nuestros pecados, no importa cuáles hayan sido. Y el aceptar este sacrificio y entregar nuestras vidas a Él, es el punto de la historia.

Verás , realmente no importa la forma, el estilo, el estado de ánimo o el lugar, el sacrificio de Jesús puede limpiar tus pecados hoy, si te entregas. Serás hecho nuevo. Él es capaz, El está esperando y Él ha hecho todo lo necesario para que puedas tener vida, y vida en abundancia. La forma en que estés escuchando la historia hoy podría ser diferente, pero la esencia de la historia es la misma. Podrás dar vueltas y vueltas tratando muchas otras “historias” y aún seguir sintiéndote vacío y perdido. Esta es la historia: El te amó tanto que lo dio todo, por eso es que la historia antigua sigue siendo la única historia.
